Censored Science: Editorial bias squashed freedom of speech in the U.S.

Karen Spencer of Gloucester, MA tells us that the editor of a weekly paper in her community refused to publish a version of the following letter in October 2015 because she wasn’t a doctor and the editor refused to publish falsehoods, even though Ms. Spencer provided the editor with scientific citations backing up her statements of fact. Instead, that weekly paper published a pro-fluoride editorial disparaging the antis and citing marketing literature from the American Dental Association.

The following is an updated version of that censored letter.
____________

To the editor:

“There are three kinds of lies, lies, damn lies and statistics.” ~ Mark Twain

Newburgh and Kingston were two New York cities imagesamong the first “Fluoridation Trials.” Newburgh was fluoridated and Kingston was not. Those 1945 trials were supposed to run 14 years, but the scheme was declared a success by the U.S. Public Health Service (PHS) after just five years.

The after the fact reports supporting this premature and pre-ordained conclusion were difficult to write. The internal discrepancies were noted in the 1950s but our government, led by industry lawyers and retired generals, shouted down opposition as the well-indoctrinated good soldiers from WWII lined up to follow the orders of their leaders.

However, follow-up studies of these two New York towns have proved to be problematic for the PHS. In the 40 years later report, dental researchers found that children in fluoridated Newburgh had much more dental fluorosis but no fewer cavities than non-fluoridated Kingston children, except in one category. In the poorest social economic class of first graders, the average number of cavities in non-fluoridated Kingston was 2 cavities. The average in fluoridated Newburgh was 1.5 cavities. That is a statistically significant difference of 25% fewer cavities among this very small sub group out of a sample of a 1493 children. That’s the 25% fluoridationist trumpet – a misleading statistic, meaningless out of context.

On the other hand, over half of all of American children have some degree of fluoride poisoning that includes ‘aesthetically displeasing’ discoloration of their teeth. According to the latest U.S. surveillance data, 23% of teens who are disproportionately non-white and poor children have over 50% of their tooth surfaces stained and even pitted because of fluoridation. These teeth are highly prone to cavities and difficult and costly to treat.

Reports from earlier decades proved dentists earned more in fluoridated communities. It makes sense, the lifetime expense for veneers and crowns for several teeth in large numbers of people are much more costly than the fee for single cavity in a few children. There is also more orthodontia in fluoridated communities. Fluoridationist organizations like the American Dental Association (ADA) stopped publishing those statistics.

Fluoridation trials also report that tooth eruption is delayed and time of menarche is earlier in fluoridated communities. The 2006 National Research Council confirmed fluoride is an endocrine disruptor. It has an adverse impact on our hormones and immune system, on our overall health.

Twenty percent of Americans have an autoimmune disease. Fluoridated water intensifies or provokes an immune system response in those of us with autoimmune disease. People with inflammatory diseases also have our conditions worsened or even caused by fluoridated water because fluoride is an inflammatory drug. Many autoimmune diseases like eczema, Crohn’s disease and rheumatoid arthritis are also inflammatory diseases.

Arthritis is the leading cause of disability in the U.S. killing 9,500 Americans each year. The symptoms of skeletal fluorosis are arthritis, generalized pain and fatigue. The diagnosis may be arthritis, chronic Lyme Disease, or fibromyalgia but the symptoms are the symptoms of fluoride poisoning.

Despite the fact that approximately 75% of the US population drinks fluoridated water, a joint national study by Boston Children’s Hospital and Harvard School of Dental Medicine reports that between 2000 and 2008 there was a 42% increase in emergency room visits for dental infections; some patients died. Predictably, most of the patients were low income, uninsured and living in fluoridated communities.

Fluoridation is a lie, a malignant medical myth. It doesn’t help us, it harms us. If fluoridation is on your ballot or before your legislators, choose NO FLUORIDE. Your health and the health of your family and neighbors depend on it.
