Hi my name is Fatima Gonzalez and I am 10 years old.
In 2012 my mom found out that 
the city puts fluoride in the water, I was 6 years old then. My brother who has autism was 4 at the time.
My mom was really upset because I was getting discoloration on my face and my brother was losing a lot of hair, mostly while taking baths.
She started doing research on the different things that could have been causing our symptoms and she came across an article that spoke of fluoride in the drinking water which could cause many health problems, some being skin discoloration and hair loss. She said that studies showed that children with autism were affected even more because of their sensitivity.
She was very upset. She said that she was mad at herself because we are her responsibility and that she let us down. She said that being a parent is a big job and it means keeping us safe.

I am writing to you today because I think that the City Council are like parents to all the residents in Brampton. It is hard and a lot of work, and like my mom sometimes parents don’t know everything, but it is still their responsibility to keep their children safe. My mom always gives us options, and when we make the wrong choice she gets upset. I always ask her why she doesn’t say anything before, and she tells me that it’s because she believes that having options means having freedom and we should have the freedom to make our own mistakes, that’s how we learn. She also says that our mistakes don’t make us the people that we are, the way that we fix them does.
The people in the City of Brampton don’t have that type of freedom to choose between 
having fluoride in their water or not, that means that you must make the right choice for them.
We are human, all of us, and we make mistakes, but when we realize that it was the wrong choice, the right thing to do would be to fix it. And like my mom who saw a problem, started researching, found a solution and fixed it, you are faced with the same decision.
