Yet another complaint filed against Peterborough mayor Diane Therrien

Posted August 18, 2022

Diane Therrien, the woman who acts as Mayor at the Corporation of the City of Peterborough (Ontario, Canada), is the subject of yet another complaint filed with the man who acts as so-called “Integrity Commissioner” for the corporation.

This latest complaint was filed by a grandmother and retired teacher who lives in Peterborough and is very concerned for the future of her grandchildren. She is not impressed with the example set by Diane’s wildly unprofessional and disrespectful behaviour, or the fact that a previous valid complaint (filed by someone else) regarding another of Diane’s vulgar tweets was swept aside.

I’ve redacted this grandmother’s name and postal code for her privacy. She filed her complaint via email yesterday, August 17, 2022, and forwarded it to me with permission to make it public.

Diane’s language and behaviour towards others never mind the people she is supposed to serve, is reprehensible and can not be allowed to continue nor go without some sort of serious repercussions. What type of model is she to our young?

She expressed her motivation for the complaint in a private message: “Dianne’s language and behaviour towards others never mind the people she is supposed to serve, is reprehensible and can not be allowed to continue nor go without some sort of serious repercussions. What type of model is she to our young?

Many in the community are asking the same question.

This is at least the 4th complaint against Therrien so far. It’s difficult to keep up! In fact it’s surprising that Therrien’s tweets alone haven’t inspired more complaints.

Anyone can file a complaint against Diane. The Code of Conduct for members of Peterborough Council is contained in By-Law Number 19-028, which is publicly available here.

I reached out to Diane this morning for a comment on this story and have not yet heard back from her.

Update: Diane is proud of her contemptuous profanity! So classy! But Canadians are less impressed.

Oh well, what can you expect of a “scholar” who lumps thousands/millions of Canadians together into 1 category, ridiculously insinuating that all of them “treat communities and people with disrespect constantly“.

…I grew up learning the value of talking scholarly when I have to. I mean, I have a master’s degree, so I can talk to you in a scholarly language when I need to.  But I can also talk to people on the level that they deserve to be talked to. And these people have treated the city — not just Peterborough, we’ve seen it in Ottawa, across the country — they treat communities and people with disrespect constantly. And yet they get outraged when we respond with that kind of disrespect.
