Some notes re the environment and fluoride

Increased environmental pollution for the sake of an unlawful, illogical and harmful means of addressing tooth decay only compounds the problems we face as a society.

Below are some brief notes… this is in no way an exhaustive compilation of relevant material on the issue of municipal water fluoridation and the environment.

1983 Memo regarding the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s solution to air & water pollution from HFSA: add it to public drinking water

Quebec Ministry of Environment 1979, Report On Fluorides, Fluoridation & Environmental Quality.  Pg 24:
“…. fluorides have been ranked high among environmental problems, Their toxicity is such that in 1947, the American Association for the Advancement of Science considered the fluoride ion the most dangerous atmospheric pollutant after sulphur dioxide and ozone, and placed it third among the urgent problems to be examined in this field…” http://www.waterloowatch.com/Index_files/MOE%20(Quebec)%201979%20Report%20On%20Fluorides,%20Fluoridation%20&%20Environmental%20Quality.pdf

Drinking water standards allow for much higher concentrations of toxins than do environmental standards.  Water fluoridation at 0.7 or 0.65 mg/L far exceeds the Canadian Water Quality Guideline of 0.12 mg/L for fluoride.

Hydrofluorosilicic acid (HFSA) is the water fluoridation agent used in most fluoridated communities, including Peel, Toronto, and other nearby communities.  HFSA is far more toxic than the naturally occurring mineral, calcium fluoride.

The LDL 50, oral rat for calcium fluoruide is ~4250 ppm, as compared to that of 125 – 430 ppm for HFSA (see pg 1).  This means that it takes far less HFSA than calcium fluoride to kill 50% of test rats.

June 29th, 2000, Dr. William Hirzy, Senior Scientist for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on his union’s opposition to water fluoridation:  Dr. Hirzy was invited to give testimony to the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, Subcommittee on Fisheries, Wildlife, and Water on behalf of the National Treasury Employees Union (NTEU) Chapter 280 – U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, National Headquarters: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ViNNIwmzTzI

According to Dr. Hirzy, water fluoridation is a waste management strategy that has nothing to do with dental health:

“If this stuff gets out into the air, it’s a pollutant; If it gets into the river, it’s a pollutant; if it gets into the lake, it’s a pollutant; But if it goes straight into your drinking water system,  it’s not a pollutant. That’s amazing.”

Spills and over feeds occur.  As confirmed by the Toronto Star, etc., the chemical that wreaked havoc on highway 401 in March 2017, sending dozens (including first responders) to hospital, was HFSA sourced from the same supplier used by “Region of Peel”.

Dr. James Sumner, 1946 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry: “Everybody knows that fluorine and fluorides are very poisonous substances and we use them in enzyme chemistry to poison enzymes.  That is the reason things are poisoned, because the enzymes are poisoned and that is why animals and plants die.”
