Region’s Supervisor of Water Quality and Compliance Confirms: Fluoridation Chemical is Not Graded for Purity

Below is our November 2, 2016 reply to an email of November 1, 2016 from the Region’s Supervisor of Water Quality and Compliance. The Supervisor’s email is not shown due to potential copyright issues. (Also note our follow-up email to Councillor Medeiros, further below.)

Good Morning Justyna,

Thank you for confirming that, to your knowledge, the HFSA added to our drinking water is not pharmaceutical grade or higher (as is required for the fluoride used in toothpaste and mouthwash, even though that source of fluoride is used only by those who voluntarily choose it and is intended to be spit out rather than swallowed), and is not procured under any purity grade classification.

Please see page 38 of Transport Canada’s 2012 Emergency Response Guidebook, attached, where HFSA is listed as a Dangerous Good/ Hazardous Material. My understanding is that HFSA is a “Class 8 corrosive substance”. Were you already aware of this?

Certificates of Analysis obtained from Lakeview Water Treatment Facility in Mississauga have shown measurable levels of arsenic and lead in HFSA. The EPA’s MCLG (Maximum Contaminant Level Goal, the maximum level of a contaminant in drinking water at which no known or anticipated adverse effect on the health of persons would occur) for both arsenic and lead is zero. The World Health Organization states that “There is no known level of lead exposure that is considered safe.” Health Canada’s advises: “Because arsenic can cause cancer, every effort should be made to keep arsenic levels in drinking water as low as possible”. Were you aware of these facts, which have been provided repeatedly to the Region?

In Canada we have a Food and Drugs Act that establishes “standards for the safety and nutritional quality of all foods sold in Canada”. Attached is a legal opinion that was presented to the Region in June 2014. It states that fluoridation violates the Food and Drugs Act? Have you read this opinion?

To my knowledge, HFSA has never been approved as a food additive or nutritional supplement, and the NSF’s certification is fraudulent because there are no toxicology studies for HFSA and the required risk assessment has never been applied. Do you know otherwise?

What have you done to assess the Region’s compliance with the Food and Drugs Act in relation to the fluoridation of our drinking water (specifically with the corrosive, contaminated, “Dangerous Good/ Hazardous Material” HFSA, not graded for purity, and sourced from the smokestacks of the phosphate fertilizer industry)?

Good Morning Councillor Medeiros,

An email that I just sent to the Region’s Supervisor of Water Quality and Compliance, Water and Wastewater Divisions (justyna.burkiewicz@peelregion.ca), has bounced back to me for some reason. I then tried to forward it to the Regional Clerk for assistance (see below), but that email also bounced back.

Would you please advise me of how I can ensure that the Supervisor receives my email and the attachments?

Thank you,
Christine
