Chair of fluoridation committee must resign: misled students, doesn’t know what F chemical is added to our water

Dear Mayor Jeffrey and Councillor Medeiros,
Three days ago, many months after Council voted to switch water fluoridation chemicals, in an email on which both of you were copied, the Chair of the water fluoridation committee falsely stated the following to a group of students:
As Chair of the Region of Peel’s Fluoride Subcommittee, I am shocked at Councillor Sprovieri’s implication that the Region of Peel continues to add Hydrofluorosilicic Acid (HFSA) to our drinking water when he knows full well the Region has converted to calcium fluoride, which is not a toxic waste product derived from the fertilizer industry and does not contain the toxic substances referenced in his letter. Councillor Sprovieri knows full well – because he was on the committee and voted to change the chemical additive – we do not use HFSA in Peel.
Her claim regarding the type of fluoridation agent used in Peel was dead wrong, as Councillor Sprovieri pointed out:
Attached you will see two quality certificates that gives the chemical analysis 0f the Fluoridation product. One is dated January 8, 2013 and the other is dated July 10, 2017.

Councillor Parrish appears to have also unilaterally decided that the issue will not be revisited for another 3 years, despite the new (September 2017), highly relevant, 12-year international study funded by the U.S. National Institutes of Health and led by the head of the Public Health Department at University of Toronto, showing that higher levels of fluoride in the urine of pregnant mothers is linked to lower IQs in their children: https://ehp.niehs.nih.gov/
Councillor Parrish, who doesn’t even know what fluoridation chemical is added to our water, has decided that:
- no matter what new evidence comes forward,
- no matter how many hundreds of brain studies pile up,
- no matter that once a standard EPA safety factor/margin of safety is applied to the existing brain studies we see that water fluoridation must end based on risk to the brain,
- no matter that less than 400ml of our water has the same 0.25 mg of fluoride that dentists and health officials all agree must be SPIT OUT when found in the recommended pea-sized bit of fluoridated toothpaste,
- no matter that bottled-fed infants receive the highest fluoride intake per kilogram of body weight of any age group, higher than what is associated with adverse thyroid effects (NRC 2006),
- no matter that even the teeth of children in the unfluoridated parts of Caledon have visible proof of fluoride over-dose (dental fluorosis),
- no matter how many people are waiting to delegate on this issue
it will remain closed for the next 3 years.

This is not acceptable. Nor is it democratic, or safe, or reasonable, or responsible, or logical, or legal, or ethical, or moral.
Carolyn Parrish needs to resign, or Council needs to remove her from the water fluoridation committee. And the issue must be re-opened.
A failure to act on this travesty would reflect equally poorly on Council.
